Frustration Matrix

Hey, you know the saying that every kid who goes to college switches their major an average of three times? Well, I'm *happy* to say that I'm that kid - one who went from a double in Biology and International Relations to a double in Environmental Studies and International Relations, to just Environmental Studies with a Statistics minor. It took me a whole year and a half to finally settle on a major and minor, leaving me with a measly 2 and a half years to then manage to squeeze it in.

And that's what they all fail to tell you. Yes, it's totally okay to switch majors a bunch of times because you are only 20 years old, but it's only okay until it isn't. Until it is practically impossible to then fit in all the new requirements while always graduating in a timely manner. Welcome to frustration village, population Erika and probably thousands of other college students as well (so perhaps it's more of a town, or small city).

So these start happening. Color-coded excel sheets attempting to map out a schedule that just might fit everything in with some bonus summer classes (woo woo). I'd like you to note the pink color. Yes, those are FIVE darn classes that will not help me graduate whatsoever. Seeing those is a kick in the butt  - and leaves me feeling sad, there's no other way to describe it.

Ah college, a wonderful place to figure out your life, but don't forget there's a deadline! And also don't forget to also be preparing for the real world with internships and jobs. Oh, and don't forget to also be studying for your present classes so you don't fail them as well! Now go and enjoy!

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to deal with this stress? I could use some pick-me-ups right about now.

PS. It's nice to think how completely irrelevant this post and this anxiety will be in 3 years, but for now it feels very real. #help

PPS. I had some nice tacos for dinner tonight. In Los Angeles they have such a thing as Taco Tuesday in which restaurants sell tacos for a dollar! I would highly recommend.
