A.K.A A Sort of Life Update
During the summer I determined that this year (school year, not calendar year...I sort of already missed the boat on 2013), that this year would be the year the I became an involved student member. The year I joined everything and literally bled cardinal and gold. Going off of years of always wanting to be part of so many phenomenal organizations, but never having the courage to try, I named this year as the year. Being a part of these organizations gives me networks of support and laughter, it gives me the ability to help this community, and to learn and grow myself.
Fast forward to the first week back in Los Angeles and what do you know I'm already part of the marching band. That's not exactly a small commitment ... go ahead and check out this post if you're confused. Congratulations, Erika, you are still a part of the band.
But, hey, I can of course do more. How about volunteering for Visions and Voices. A wonderful program that brings the arts to the students and the students to the arts. After a nerve-wracking interview, I got the t-shirt and joined the crew! Congratulations, Erika, you are now a V&V Volunteer.
Let's not stop there! What about Building Government and Residential Student Government! This one involved running for a position and asking for votes. And I was voted "Recognition Chair". All I knew was that I was supposed to recognize people for outstanding achievements. That's only another 2-3 hours a week in meetings. After a wonderful retreat this weekend, I'm really excited for this one, and perchance you all might seem some of my writings of others achievements here! Congrats, E, you get to congratulate others!
I'm not done yet, though. I thought I'd try for another organization. A community service sisterhood and "the official hostesses" of my university. And after a truly scary and difficult process of events and interviews and applications, I was selected! Congrats, E, you did it!
If you hadn't already figured, I'm a bit high on life right now and all these wonderful organizations that I have been blessed with. I'm sorry if you tired of me congratulating myself, there's a catch here, I promise. All these congratulations for becoming a member of these different groups has been exhilarating, everyone welcoming me into this family, or that family. I'm ready to dive right into the thick of it!
Here's the catch, though, these things take time. They take commitment and dedication. And they have to come AFTER all my schoolwork (which I have to admit has been marginally neglected recently). So Congratulations Erika. But really, girl, you haven't done anything yet; this is actually just the beginning. So buckle down, and get ready for a wild ride this year! I'll try to take you along for some of it, because I'm determined to keep this blog high priority!

PS. My first act of recognition as RecBo is to recognize all of you lovelies (or manlies if you're a guy) who are reading this! Thank you thank you thank you for putting up with this sometime mess of a girl who shares too much!
